Homeland Security Factoid # 3,982

The NYPD is approximately 39,000+ strong, and responsbile for protecting about 320 sq. miles of the city.

The U.S. Coast Guard is approximately 40,000 strong and responsible for protecting 95,000 sq. miles of shoreline. (Source: History Channel -- "Al Qaeda's Navy")

In two words I can sum up this reality:

It sucks.

Don't forget the Border Patrol. I worked as a Patrol Officer for a while, long enough to see that the US/MEX US/CAN borders are far too porous for the USBP to effectively seal off.
